Thomas Jefferson drafted "When in the course of human
events..." the first words of our Declaration of Independence from
the broadened writing arm of his custom Windsor. When the Continental
Congress met at Independence Hall to adopt the the Declaration, the
members rose to sign from sitting in Windsor chairs.
A mostly true, post revolution re-telling:
According to a Mount Vernon insider, an indignant Martha Washington,
miffed at the hordes of George's weighty well wishers abusing her
"good" Hepplewhite chairs, ordered nearly three dozen Windsors
for the estate's waiting room. Our own collection includes choices of bow back styles, fan back styles,
